September is Suicide Awareness Month

By Morgan Arledge, Staff Writer

Suicide prevention month is celebrated in September. The month is used to help bring awareness to those suffering with mental issues and suicidal thoughts. The college community can do things to help people with these issues like listing and trying to help them obtain proper help and resources if they need it. There are a few different resources available to students and even resources for people you know that are not students.

The main resource that anyone can look up is The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 800-273-TALK (8255) or call 911 immediately. The college also has some services that can help people.

Eastern Oklahoma State College also partners with the Health and Well- ness Center to provide medical services, behavioral health services, and counseling services to students. Covered services are provided free of charge for students without health insurance. Costs will be charged to private insurance for students who have coverage. Eligibility All full-time EOSC students who are enrolled in the current semester are eligible for services. Proof of current enrollment is required. All students must present a valid EOSC ID before receiving services.

Appointments All appointments must be scheduled in advance through the Office of Student Services. This ensures that services will be covered for students without health insurance.
