Children’s books discussed in first Book Club meeting

BY MORGAN ARLEDGE, Staff Writer

On Oct. 2, the library hosted a book club meeting with the theme of children’s book. Multiple books were presented in a fun and loving way, which showed why children and adults love certain kinds of books when growing up. Games based off certain books were played at the meeting in order to win prizes. Although there were multiple games played throughout the night, one of the most popular one played was one based off of “Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory.” The game was a matching candy game where the team either had to match the candy by color or by the kind of candy it was.

Maria Martinez, Director of Library Services, is also in charge of the book club, and she spoke about how she always tries to make the first meeting as fun as possible so that more people come to see how much it can be. The goal of the book club is to discuss books that are read in between the meetings. Although this first meeting did not have a single book to discuss, many books were discussed about why adults and children adore the reads. Some of the more mature books discussed were Harry Potter and The Chronicles of Narnia.

The book club is held twice a semester and students are able to check out any of the fiction books located in the back of the library on the second floor. Also, the library is known to host other events throughout the semester, and they are always known to give out great door prizes.
