Wardrobe transition: summer to autumn

In Oklahoma, no one ever really knows how the weather is going to act day-to-day. Since students at Eastern Oklahoma State College have started classes, there have been temperatures ranging from under 80 to over 100 degrees. This being the case, many students can’t determine every morning what outfit will get them from the blazing heat and humidity outside to the freezing classrooms inside, and that includes some students who have lived in this environment all their lives.

There are a few ways to manipulate fashion to be versatile, not only during the back-and-forth days of the back to school season, but also in transitioning from summer to autumn without comprising an entire new wardrobe for the colder weather.

One of the simplest clothing “hacks” available today is the use of a cardigan. The ability of a cardigan to be not only lightweight, but also warm is beyond one’s capacity of thought. This is an item that can easily be thrown on over your shoulders for those colder class periods (I’m looking at you, Kristen Turner.) and quickly stowed away in a backpack for the walk between buildings. This is also an innovative way to keep all those summer tops in the laundry cycle without getting a case of frostbite on your arms.

Another way to keep yourself warm moving into this autumn is to switch out those sandals for a cute pair of sneakers. This sounds so simple, I know, but hear me out. Layer. Your. Socks. During the warmer weather days, who needs to wear socks with their slip-on tennis shoes? But, when it starts cooling off later in the season, there is no rule against throwing on a couple pair of no-show socks to keep all your body heat from escaping out your feet!

Lastly, a classic that nobody really needs to be told about, hoodies. With football season coming up, most everyone is already going to be bulking up their closets with some nice, warm sweatshirts to keep the elements away. But a reminder never hurt anyone. Don’t forget, if you want to keep your mountaineer spirit alive in the dead of winter, the bookstore always has something for everyone.
